A Good Week Includes Service, Family and Temple Attendance

We had the opportunity to attend the San Diego Temple twice this week.  One evening, we took a brother in our ward and we performed some temple sealings for some of his family members.  Another day we took a sister in our ward and her adult son to perform baptisms for her mother and deceased brother.  Both were wonderful, uplifting, memorable days.  After the baptisms, we stopped and enjoyed lunch at a Chinese restaurant.  You just can't beat a day like that!

One of the service opportunities that we had this week was to help a sister unpack some of her boxes as she had recently moved into an assisted living facility.  This sister had traveled all over the world, was married to an artist and had many interesting stories to share with us.  As a Thank you for helping her, she invited us to join her for lunch at the home.  We actually really enjoyed this, the food wasn't bad and she introduced us to many of the residents.  The one unpleasant encounter was when one of the men she introduced us to asked if we were new residents. 😆. She also gave us some fun antique opera glasses.

One of our elders serving in our ward was transferred this week.  We just happened to run into our elders the night before the transfers as they were walking home so we were able to catch them to say good-bye.  Elder Wetsel has served in Double Peaks ward for six months and has been an exemplary missionary.

Elder Prater helped two elders install a vent for their air conditioning unit in their apartment.  These elders don't live in our zone so this was our first time meeting them.  We enjoy getting to know all the young missionaries.

This week's Mexican food comes from Mrs. Taco, one of my favorite places so far.

On Sunday night we were reminded how good our Heavenly Father is to us and how he wants us to spend time with family while we are here. I had been looking at our calendar for the upcoming up and was wondering how we were going to fit in seeing Mike this week, it just didn't look too promising as our week is pretty much scheduled.  We have a sister who is staying in our ward for a short time.  She is a traveling nurse and was here for work when it was discovered she had cancer.  She opted to stay here to get treatment instead of going home and starting over with new doctors.  She has six weeks of treatments and is half way through.  When she doesn't feel well we will give her a ride to her doctor as she is staying closer to us outside the ward boundaries and she really doesn't know anyone here.  Sometimes she gets dehydrated and needs fluids through an IV.  This is a holiday weekend and she couldn't wait til Tuesday to  when the office was open because she was feeling badly.  So she asked us to take her to the ER in San Diego early Sunday evening, which we agreed to do.  After she went in the ER and we knew it would be a couple of hours, I looked at the map on my phone and realized that Mike lived only 9 minutes from the hospital!  We were able to go over and spend some time with him and his family while our friend was getting treated.  We ended up not getting home until mid-night, but she felt much better and we had a fun visit with family.  It is just amazing to me how God is able to show us tender mercies as we strive to do his will.  Taking her to the hospital blessed our week!

The Ronald McDonald house was close to the hospital.
