I Think We Are Having Too Much Fun

 "Adam fell that men might be, men are that they might have joy."  2 Nephi 2:25

This week we felt much joy as we started the week out with an Adult Family Home Evening, ended it with a couple of baptisms and enjoyed the company of loved ones in between. 

We had our monthly Adult Family Home Evening, instead of having a lesson we played some getting to know you games. In one game, everyone had the name of a famous person pinned on their back and they had to ask questions to figure out whose name it was.  The second games was two truths and and lie, and everyone tried to guess what your lie was.  This worked out perfectly because we brought a sister who moved into the ward during Covid and didn't know anyone so she was able to make some new friends.

On Tuesday, we had a full day planned but one by one all our plans canceled.  This actually worked out well for us because Gabby Wilson, a friend from South Carolina let me know she was close by visiting her son and asked if we could get together sometime during the week.  Tuesday turned out to be the perfect day so we arranged to meet her at Balboa Fun Zone, one of my favorite places to visit when I was a child.  We loved catching up with Gabby.  As we sat and visited on the pier, we had the pleasure of viewing some dolphins playing in the waves near the shore.  They put on a show for us, even jumping in the air.  It was a wonderful day.

Our Wednesday appointments fell through too but we used the time to visit a brother that had recently fallen and was now in rehab.  We had been trying to figure out what happened to him for the past couple of weeks because he wasn't home and won't answer our phone calls.  It was a relief to finally learn his where abouts.  He seems to be doing very well in rehab, we couldn't find him in his room because he was playing bingo and enjoying himself. 

We also we able to visit a mother and her son and show them how to add sources and memories on Family Search.  We made an appointment to do baptisms at the temple next week for her parents.

On Thursday morning we did our last apartment inspection for the transfer.  The sister's apartment was so clean!

After working in the Family Search Center,  we rode with the Fowers and attended a Senior Missionary bonfire at San Clemente State Beach.  It is always such a joy to get together with the other senior missionaries.   Sadly we said our good byes to Elder and Sister Hanks who will be completing their mission next week.  They have been so wonderful to learn from.  






And than if we hadn't already had enough fun, on Friday our son, Tyler was in town for the day so we did some sight seeing with him. 








Saturday was an amazing day as we were able to witness the two young missionaries in our ward baptize a mother and son into The Church Of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.  Elder Wetsel had been teaching this sister for six months.  He wondered why he wasn't transferred last time and I believe it was so that he could be there for her and her son's baptism.  Many ward members attended and bore their testimony of how they too came to know the truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ.  


We ended our day with taking the missionaries out to dinner to celebrate Elder Houser's birthday which was earlier in the week.  The perfect end to a perfect week.

    It was so great to talk to you yesterday. I do miss your voice and your laugh. The pictures of the sea lions remind me how much I miss them and their barking. The last pic of the food looks good too😀. Take care and we love you ❤ two.

 There is a scripture in D&C 89:20 which states- Therefore, in the  ordinances  thereof, the power of  godliness  is manifest. To me this means that when we participate in the ordinances of the gospel of Jesus Christ and make sacred covenants with our Heavenly Father he will show his power in our lives.  Namely the power of the atonement of his son, Jesus Christ.  As stated in Alma 7:11-12, Christ's atonement covers pains, afflictions, and temptations of every kind and he loosed the bands of death both temporally and spiritually.   Because of the covenants that I have made and kept, I have seen the power of godliness manifested in my life and the lives of my loved ones in the past week as we came together to temporarily say good-bye to my brother, Glenn.  We celebrated Glenn's life in several ways- by getting together as siblings whenever possible during the weekend, with a graveside service with family and friends on Friday and the dedication of his grave with his siblings

We Are Done

We have finished the last week of our senior mission in the Newport Beach, California Mission. We had the wonderful opportunity to attend the Newport Beach Temple one last time to witness a sister in our ward receive her endowments.  It was a beautiful way to end our mission.  Satan put many roadblocks in the way of this happening before we left to go home. God is a God of miracles and he created many to make this happen just two days before we finished our mission.  Bro. and Sister Wiley, Kathleen Griffin, Amy Mobley, Elder Prater and myself  We were sure to get one more glimpse of Oceanside Harbor before we left We will miss many people that we have come to love Jay Griffin and Elder Prater Our last night in the mission we just had to finish up with our favorite tacos with friends- Rod, Karl, Ron and Elder Prater  Our missionary service in the Newport Beach, California Mission may have ended but our service to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ has not.  We have grown closer to him ov

Full, Fun Week

 In the April 2020 General Conference, Pres Nelson said  The Lord's work in the church is moving forward at an accelerated pace- the church will have an unprecedented unparalleled future.  The fulness of Christ's ministry lies in the future.  These are exciting times and when serving as a missionary, one can see how the Lord is hastening his work.  What a joy it is to be part of this great work and help gather Israel.  How have you seen evidence of this accelerated pace?  Having fun with another senior missionary couple was a great way to start our week. We went with Elder and Sister Spencer to Leo Carrillo Ranch Park, checked out the view at the Flower Fields again and finished off with lunch in the Oceanside Harbor.  A highlight of our week and our mission, was to attend the temple with our friends, Kathleen and Jay.  This past week we got to participle in the sealing ordinances of Kathleen to her deceased parents and other close family members.  Part of our purpose as Member
