And The Real Work Begins

 

Elder and Sister Kenningston's last Sunday in the Double Peak Ward 



 Sunday February 19,  was the last Sunday that the missionary couple serving in the Double Peak Ward before us attended our new ward.  The next morning they packed up their car and traveled back home to Utah to be released.  They served well and loved so many!  They have large shoes for us to fill.  


On Monday afternoon we moved into their apartment which they had just vacated.  This apartment was worth the wait!

 









On Tuesday, we attended our district meeting.  We love our young missionaries.  We have a sister from Mississippi who lives closes to an area that our son, Matthew served in several years ago.  We also have an elder from South Carolina.  These missionaries are hard working and always willing to learn from each other how to better invite others to come to Christ.  







We were blessed by the Kenningtons who gave us a list of members that they had been visiting and wanted us to continue to minister to them.  So we spent most of the week stopping by and visiting these  wonderful members.   We also attended Family Home Evening for anyone that wanted to study the Come Follow Me lesson together once a month.  We had met many ward members that we are enjoying getting to know.  

We put together a flyer to pass out on Sunday so we can reach out to more ward members and let them know how we can serve them. 




We are also blessed to have another missionary couple who lives in our apartment complex.  Elder and Sister Fowers are serving in two Spanish wards and this is their fourth mission.  They have already influenced us and taught us alot- including how to play pickle ball- our new favorite exercise. 



California has had record rainfall this year and we experienced another storm this week.  The water is a blessing. 








In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus Christ teaches us that 

Behold, do men light a candle and put it under a bushel? Nay, but on a candlestick, and it giveth light to all that are in the house;

Therefore let your light so shine before this people, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven.

In my studies I read the following scripture - 

3 Nephi 18:24 Therefore, hold up your light that it may shine unto the world. Behold I am the light which ye shall hold up—that which ye have seen me do. 


That is our purpose as missionaries to hold up our light, which is our Savior and invite everyone to come unto him.  We are excited to be part of this work and look forward to the many miracles that we will see in this coming year.

We Are Done

We have finished the last week of our senior mission in the Newport Beach, California Mission. We had the wonderful opportunity to attend the Newport Beach Temple one last time to witness a sister in our ward receive her endowments.  It was a beautiful way to end our mission.  Satan put many roadblocks in the way of this happening before we left to go home. Full, Fun Week

 In the April 2020 General Conference, Pres Nelson said  The Lord's work in the church is moving forward at an accelerated pace- the church will have an unprecedented unparalleled future.  The fulness of Christ's ministry lies in the future.  These are exciting times and when serving as a missionary, one can see how the Lord is hastening his work.  What a joy it is to be part of this great work and help gather Israel.  How have you seen evidence of this accelerated pace?  Having fun with another senior missionary couple was a great way to start our week. Countdown Begins- Five Weeks Left In The Mission

This week we enjoyed time with the family, trips to the temple, service work, lunches with friends, pickleball, a lesson on making stained glass lanterns, family history work, helping with setting up a missionary apartment, a visit to San Diego and a wonderful baptism.  Our Sunday dinners with our son, Mike and his family will be some of our favorite mission memories.  We have loved learning how to make stained glass lanterns from Marvin.  We always find satisfaction in helping to prepare new apartments for the young missionaries.   Exploring our mission and the beauty around us is always a pleasure.  This week we visited Cabrillo National Monument in San Diego.   We had the privilege of being able to attend the baptism of our good friend, Bryan.  His wife and son were baptized in our ward a year ago and then they moved to a near by city.  In November, Elder Prater baptized their second oldest son so imagine our joy when we got the word ...
