Tranfer Week- We Moved

The highlight of our week was attending the temple with Jay and his mother, Kathy to perform the sealing ordinances for our family members.  This time was extra special because we have attended the temple together several times- first to do the baptisms for Kathy's parents, and brother.  We then proceeded to attend the temple to complete all the ordinances for her parents and brothers ending with the sealings that we did this week.  It was a very special time and we knew that Kathy's mother was smiling!

It was transfer week for the young missionaries and we did move but those two things have nothing to do with each other.  We have been living in Vista which is outside our ward boundaries and 25 minutes away from the church building.  Another senior couple, the Hanks, returned home last month and their apartment is only about 8 minutes from the church building and 5 minutes outside our ward boundaries.  So we moved into their apartment getting us closer to where we serve.  (We look forward to saving money on gas!)

We moved into a 55 and older complex and we are actually really enjoying it here.  In our old complex everyone was busy and you didn't see people very much but here everyone is retired and hanging around the place.  Everyone here loved the Hanks who are wonderful, so they instantly loved us.  There is a large pool which isn't used as much as the one at our old complex, so we have already taken advantage of that this week.  Also there are many activities offered throughout the week, that we can attend.  We have already met many wonderful people.

Our fourth of July celebration this year was pretty simple. We attended our ward's breakfast and parade in the morning.

Because we had just moved during the week and didn't really have plans or buy any food for a BBQ, we went to hamburger habit for our meal.  It had a grilled taste.   And that evening, we just watched fireworks on Youtube since we didn't want to fight the crowds.

We are working with a sister who was baptized a year ago and is getting ready to go to the temple to perform baptisms.  Her two children did not get baptized.  We invited another family with young children to join us at the FamilySearch Center where we helped this sister create a tree on FamilySearch and do some fun family history activities.  We all did compare a face to see what famous people and which of our relatives that we look the most like.  We also checked to see if we were all related to each other.  It was a fun and productive evening.

This week I received a text from the newly baptized sister that moved and she let me know that her new ward is wonderful and this sister even bore her testimony for the first time even through it is not like her to do any public speaking.  We were so sorry to see her family move but feel happy that they were welcomed with open arms.

For our P-day this week we visited Leo Carrillo Historic Ranch in Carlsbad.  He was a movie star that died in the 1960s.  When he was 70 years old, he also was a main character on Cisco Kid, a very much loved  TV series.

The same day we also visited the Craftsmanship Museum in Carlsbad.  Miniature models of engines, buildings & vehicles made of metal & wood are displayed at this museum.  The workmanship and time spent on these miniature engines, planes and dollhouses were amazing.

And finally, because we moved we will no longer be close to Mrs. Taco.  But another favorite mexican restaurant close to our younger missionary's apartment that we really enjoy is Senor Pancho.  We almost finished out the week without any tacos but we finally got the opportunity on Saturday.  Yum.
