We Were Fed by the Young Missionaries!

We were so pleased to be invited to lunch at Elder Blaney's and Elder's Peck apartment one P-day.  Elder Blaney cooked a  delicious roast and we had a lovely meal.  We had a great time getting to know their stories and how they came to serve a mission.

Elder Blaney likes to cook and experiment.  He showed us pictures of the escargot he made from garden snails.  He said they turned out good.  (gross).  He is a very resourceful missionary.

In an earlier blog, I mentioned how Elder Peck showed me his collection of coins.  He said his family has a tradition that if you found a coin then it was a deceased relative letting you know that they cared.  Today he showed me all the coins that he has found so far on his mission.  I was very impressed.

This week Sister Christensen who loves to bake brought two pies to district meeting, a cherry pie and a loquat pie, both made from scratch.  I have to say that she makes one of the best crusts that I have ever tasted.

The rest of the week was pretty routine,  we continue with our Family Search Center service, we have a couple of people that we meet with weekly for a Family Home Evening type lesson, we took a couple of members to the San Diego Temple and made some visits to some ward members that need extra attention.

One day, I fulfilled the time in Family Search Center while Elder Prater took the young missionaries to a lesson.  During the lesson they invited this friend to be baptized and set a day in August for his baptism.  Elder Prater said the spirit was so strong as they made that invitation.  The friend attened church on Sunday and had a wonderful experience.  Elder Prater brought the Elders to the Family Search Center when he came to pick me up.  We all got on the computers and requested a name for the next time we go to serve in the temple.  Everyone had a great day and were very happy.

We took time out on Friday this week to go whale watching.  We have yet to see a whale since we have been here and this was our fourth trip trying.  Once again, no whales.  We went on a zodiac boat which holds about twelve passengers and is able to go faster than the large whale watching boats.  They also sit closer to the ground so you have a closer view of the wildlife.  We were privileged to see several large pods of dolphins which was so fun!  I am not going to give up.  We will keep going til we finally see a whale, any type of whale!

We went whale watching out of Newport Beach so while we were there we walked down to the spot where my parents owned a beach house while I was growing up.  Our beach house would be about 100 years old and was yellow.  It has now been replaced by a newer gray house.  It was fun to stop and reminisce even if the house was gone.

We also stopped and had a late lunch on my dad's favorite seafood restaurant- The Crab Cooker.  All these events brought back wonderful memories of my childhood.

I am not going to tell you what we did on Saturday, I will save that for the next blog- somethings to keep you wondering!
