Halfway Mark- Eight Down, Eight To Go

Hard to believe that despite the fact that we extended our mission by four months we are still at the halfway mark.  Time really flies by!

We had so many great experiences this week.  One of my favorite was attending and helping with a single adult Family History activity on Saturday.  The activity started out with some really good speakers and then everyone divided up into classes or you could get some one on one help in the Family Search Center.  Elder Prater was able to work in the center helping a sister get onto her account in FamilySearch.  I taught a class on how to add memories to FamilySearch using your phone.  We both had good experiences and it is always joyful to see someone get excited about family history when they learn a new skill.  After this activity we were able to attend a baptism for a young single adult in the same building. A very  satisfying way to spend our Saturday.

One visit that particularly stands out to me from this week was to a member of our ward, who for health reasons is not able to attend church.  He moved into our ward a year ago to be closer to doctors in San Diego.  He is being treated for his second type of cancer and needs to be very careful.  When we visit him, we like him to suggest what talk or scripture he would like to discuss.  This time he picked Gensis 1:4

And God saw the light, that it was agood: and God divided the light from the darkness.

Basically his insight was that if you look at this symbolically and liken it unto ourselves then we need to divide the light from the darkness in our selves.    We need to choose the good and reject the evil.  Such a great thought and a good way to remind ourselves each day to repent.

We just had transfers and have so many new faces in our district and zone.  I need to learn some new names all over again!

This transfer at Elder Johansson's suggestion we will be giving a Cleanest Apartment Award to the companionship that has the shiniest apartment.   They will get to keep the trophy til next transfer when we judge all the apartments again.  I look forward to inspecting so very clean apartments.

We also had our monthly Family Home Evening this week.  Everyone shared their favorite  quote from General Conference.  It was interesting because so many of us picked the same talks to quote from.  As always we had yummy food.  I brought some halloween ghosts which I also shared with the young missionaries at our district meeting.

We did attend the Newport Beach Temple again this week.  Unfortunately a tanker truck went off the road near Oceanside which slowed traffic for hours.  It took us two or three extra hours to get home.  We didn't eat near the temple thinking we would wait til we got home.  By the time we were dropping off the members we had given rides to we were starving so three of us stopped at our favorite taco place and had yummy tacos.

Last of all, we thought we would try whale watching again and once again we saw no whales!  But we did enjoy the boat ride and saw quite a few dolphins.  We feel very blessed to be here.
