Zone Conference With Elder Bragg

We attended two zone conferences this week with Elder Bragg.  The first one was for the southern zones which we are in and we were fed spiritually.  The second conference was for the northern zones and we feed others physically. Both were uplifting.

All the senior missionaries made soup to share at the northern zone conference.  It was fun to work together.

During the southern zone conference, Elder Bragg taught us that each one of us was called of God by the way of  an apostle to serve in the Newport Beach, California Mission which gives us the confidence to know that we are in the right place at the right time.  And as mission assignments are prayerfully considered, sometimes we are called more to be with a mission leader than we are a certain place.  Our mission leader, President Carter will also be inspired to send us to a place where we will be useful.  No missionary should every feel they are in an area that there is no work. We have been called by a prophet of serve at this place at this time.  This teaching is so encouraging and reassuring.

President and Sister Carter also taught us about the importance of the Sabbath day and the sacrament.  Some nuggets of truth that I loved were-

  • The sacrament is about the ordinances and the talks are the filler because there are not enough ordinances to fill the meetings.
  • We prepare for the sacrament with a broken heart and contrite spirit otherwise known as a repentant heart, and an obedient spirit
  • We go to church for covenants
  • We don't go to church to get, we go to give

Sister Prater, President Scott Ferrell, Elder Prater

I don't know if I mentioned what a small world it is in the church, and even more so in Newport Beach, California.  President Scott Ferrell is a counselor in the mission presidency of the Newport Beach, California mission.  We grew up on the same street together in Glendora, just a couple houses away from each other.  He is my brother Glenn's age and hung out with him. Scott could remember many details of my childhood home.

We have been able to catch up visiting with some of our members this week, and we were back to work in the Family Search Center.  On Saturday we made breakfast for a ward member that was craving biscuits and gravy, which my husband is great at making.

The weather has been cold.  I know it is much colder every where else but it just seems cold here.  So we have been wearing sweaters.  And the beach looked rough when we went to visit it.  We are having a California winter.  We love our mission.
